This demonstration illustrates scenario comparison with the OpenSankey software, on a simplified model of the French forest-wood industry. The data is illustrative: the orders of magnitude are inspired by the real industry, but the scenario is fictitious and has no predictive value.
The diagram traces the path of wood from the forest to sawmills, panel factories and pulp mills, and on to the final uses: construction, packaging, paper and board, and energy, taking imports and exports into account. A set of data tags lets you switch between four dates — 2015, 2020, 2035 and 2050 — and see how the flows reshape from an observed situation towards a prospective trajectory.
Explore the diagram: change the year to compare configurations, and hover over the flows to read the values. This kind of representation is what supports the industry foresight exercises carried out with the OpenSankey method.
